Artist's Comments

Well, here's my justification for this thing. Last night, I had a dream, that I actually remembered when I work up (The dream was the reason I woke up in the first place) and inside this dream there was a fascinating animal. It ws about the size and shape of a fennec fox, with a longer muzzle, but it was a bright green colour, mostly. In fact, it seemed to have to colour pattern of some exotic bird. It wasn't green all over, and I never got a really good look at the whole body (My dreams are incredibley vague) but I have this one snapshot image that I remember clearly- I looked it right in the face at one point in the dream, and saw that it's head was largely a black/grey colour, not green like the body.

Anyway, most of the dream I don't remember, but interestingly there are a few things I remember. I remember that when I was experiencing the dream in the first person (it's complicated, don't ask) that someone was trying to take this animal away from me, and that appearently made me very unhappy. I seem to remeber also haveing the kind of love for this animal that serious animal lovers have (No, not in the creepy way) with their pet. Which is odd, because while I like my pet lab, I'm not the 'loveing' kind of person. I don't think I even feel that way for my parents. My parents are cool and all, and damn good parents, but.... whatever. My dreams are really weird.

So, anyway, this dream, more specifically this animal, caused me to wake up several hours earlier than I would have, and my first thought was 'I have to draw that thing'

Unfortunately, as I said earlier, my dreams are very vague. I never got a really good look at the animal, and it changed from scene to scene anyway. But I did remember the dark coloured face and green body. Remembering that reminded me of an exotic bird, I decided to look up, literally, 'green bird' in google. And not more than a page or two in, I see a bird called a 'Green Cheek Conure' that matched what I had seen really closely, colour wise. Almost creepily. Not sure why I was dreaming of the colour pattern of a bird I have never seen or heard of, but whatever. Now, there are differences, but since what I was dreaming changed minor details often, I decided to use more of the birds markings then my memory. I do remember well that the tail was in fact green, not red, but I changed it to red to match the bird more and add some interest.

Anyway. So I doodled this up really fast- boring, rehashed pose I know, but I just had ot get this down- and spent the better part of my day colouring it. While in the dream the animal was actually a quadrupedal animal (As I said, more like a fennic fox) but I am completely and pathetically unable to draw quads, so I anthro'd instead. I think it looked cooler as a quad, but this is still an interesting emperiment. (I am quite fetched with the plume like tufts of green draped over the red tail- gives it an interesting avian quality if I do say so myself, if you could see it how I do you'd know what I mean. Effect would be greatest from behind... anyway.)

AND I ACTUALLY HAD A DREAM I REMEMBERED. That's a momentous occasion in itself. On a drawing related matter, do you know how hard it is to put green and red together and make it look good and not blindingly bright? Complimentary colours will do that. Also scanner completely ate any shading or texture in the white, however the rest of the fur looks pretty good. And though the actual animal in my dream had no hair, being quad, I decided to go with red to match the colour scheme, and devide the bright effect created by the complimentary green-red instead of focusing it mostly on the red tail. Legs are cropped out as something looked like it went wrong. Ran out of paper and I think they were a bit short.

Anyway, I do remember all those pictures I said I'd draw for people. I still will, don't worry ;p I'm just lazy as hell, and taking my time. I've also been distracted my music again lately. It comes and goes. I think this might have snapped me back toward drawing again, though. Maybe this is the beginning to more serious dream inspired drawings? Who knows.

But for now, stare confusedly at my strange creation, and enjoy. :D

...One of these days I will write a simple short description, I swear.

well first, the colours are fantastic. without reading your post, i thought you were making some parrot-fox blend.

second, it's weird that you should say that, because i hardly have dreams, and if i can remeber them they're vague. and last night i dreamt that the canary i am baby-sitting had turned blue and red like a macaw or something, and i was worried about it flying away but he seemed to be ok and even fly back to me.

Universal unconsciousness. Creepy.

My dreams are very very rarely in color, or really much of anything substantial. It's usually more plot and feelings...

The first thought that came to mind when I woke up was macaw, actually, but it didn't match the colours quite. I know nothing about birds, really :D

My dreams are usually forgotten long before I wake up, but no matter how vague the dream is, there is always one or two images or scenes in each one that I can recall like a photograph, almost like something that actully happened. It's errie the clarity I can recall the face of that critter with. Couldn't relly duplicate it on paper, but that's beside the point. :D Of every dream I have, I forget most of it, but there's these residual snapshots of each one. It's pretty cool :)

Oh, and thanks <^^>

Mine are almost always in a sort of psudo colour... like the colours are and aren't there at the same time- impossible to explain, but suffice to say there's varying degrees of clour in every dream I have. My dreams are odd though... I switch from being a character in the dream to watching it like a movie back and forth all the time, and I never really see anyone- any person there is always, like, shoulder down, or occasionally I'll never actually see a person at all, just somehow know they're there. It's messed up XD I can't recall ever seeing a persons face when I dream, ever. But they're usually in colour

I actually like the longer descriptions, gives a bit of backstory to a piece :)

Kudos for having more interesting dreams than moi tho =O

Seriously, a humungous mecha design has more realistic potential for use than a dirigible.
